is one of my favorite Disney Animated Films. it's rare to see them depart from European fables and venture into other cultures, but they did a great job of it with Mulan! the movie has great iconic character design and balances action and great music for a story that both kids and adults can enjoy. Eddie Murphy (Shrek, Daddy Day Care) holds it down as the hilariously hapless spirit guardian Mushu. as a man with a baby daughter, I like that Mulan reminds little girls what a determined woman can do! 
right now, my daughter Marley's favorite book is Sweet, Sweet Baby!
by Javaka Steptoe. it's a puffy flower with plush pages and a plastic mirror on the back. the pages have cute illustrations, and Marley loves that mirror! Marley's "pre-verbal", but this book is short and (as the title suggests) super-duper sweet! great for babies!

check out this GREAT interview of Jeff Smith, the writer and artist of a fun adventure/fantasy comic called Bone. it feels like a cross between Lord of the Rings and Donald Duck, but it's also totally different! the original Bone comics were in black and white (which is cheaper and easier to make), but now Scholastic has reprinted the stories in color, so it's even MORE like reading one of those cartoons from tv! take a look inside Bone Volume 1: Out From Boneville here.
